Classic Banoffee Recipe

Created in the United Kingdom, Banoffee Pie has been eaten for decades. The recipe was invented by Nigel Mackenzie and Ian Dowding, respectively, the owner and chef of The Hungry Monk Restaurant, in East Sussex, in 1971.

The Banoffe`s recipe was published in The Deeper Secrets of the Hungry Monk in 1974. And, after that the recipe has been adopted for a lot of restaurants around the world.

It is so easy to make, because we just use cookies, melted butter, condensed milk and bananas. Take a look at the recipe below:

For the base:
100g melted butter
225g crushed biscuits

For the caramel
397g condensed milk or duche de leche

For the top
2 medium bananas
150 carton whipping cream, lightly whipped

How to make it

First of all, we are going to put the crushed biscuits in a bowl and mix it with the melted butter. Then, spoon the into the base and press against the bottom and sides. Chill it for ten minutes.

Cook the condensed milk and, carefully, put it above the base. You can also use the dulce de leche in this step. After, slice the bananas and fold half of them into the softly whipped cream and spoon over the base.

Decorate the top with bananas and cocoa. Keep it in the fridge until serve.
